9 years after the events of MGSV: GROUND ZEROES and the fall of Mother Base, Snake a.k.a. Big Boss, awakens from a nine year coma. The year is 1984.
The Cold War serves as the backdrop as nuclear weapons continue to shape a global crisis.
Driven by revenge, Snake establishes a new private army and returns to the battlefield in pursuit of the shadow group, XOF.

The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan has brought a new edge to the Cold War, and in 1984, a one-eyed man with a prosthetic arm appears in the country.
Those who know him call him Snake; the legendary mercenary who was once swept from the stage of history and left in a coma by American private intelligence network Cipher.
Snake is accompanied by Ocelot, an old friend who saved him from attack when he finally awoke.

Now, Snake's former partner Kazuhira Miller is being held by the Soviet forces in Afghanistan.
Snake must undertake a solo mission to rescue Miller and prove to the world that the legendary mercenary is not dead and gone.
That first step will lead to a path of vengeance against the very Cipher that slaughtered so many of Snake's men, and to a battle that will embroil the whole world...

The METAL GEAR SOLID team continues to ambitiously explore mature themes such as the psychology of warfare and the atrocities that result from those that engage in its vicious cycle.
One of the most anticipated games of the year with its open-world design, photo-realistic visual fidelity and feature-rich game design, MGSV: The Phantom Pain will leave its mark as one of the hallmarks in the gaming industry for its cinematic storytelling, heavy themes, and immersive tactical gameplay.
MGS V has gone far from it's roots to mature into a complex game that not only involves espionage, but also into managing your entire team.

Game Play
In an open level world design, you play as an espionage who has been rescued in a hospital and has to infiltrate enemy grounds in Iran. Your tactical skills to scout enemies, enter as quietly as possible, knock down enemies without alerting others will be key in accomplishing this arduous task.
There are various modes of gameplay, the game is played entirely in solo missions where you can take on many main missions, side ops tasks and also online challenges.

To survive, you will need to carry different weapons for each mission to ensure they carry out it's purpose well.
To take our enemies in towers, you can use a sniper rifle or just go ninja and climb up to take the soldier down.
A hand gun with silencer to knock down enemies when many of them are around is useful too.
Whatever requirements you need, MGSV has a plethora of weapons at your disposal, they can even be delivered to you by air dropping should you decide to change your weapon half-way in your mission.
Not just guns, but grenades, explosives such as landmines and C4 detonates to kill wide area of enemies.
But of all weapons, your melee attacks in unarmed combat is the best as it allows you to grab hold of your enemy and get them to spill out secrets or knock them unconscious, or simply silence them.
Snake's left arm has become bionic since the war ended and he can use this as a powerful tool to track bio-organic living things in his surrounding after you upgrade his bionic arm.
However, the sonic shock to track nearby living things are only temporary and has a limited range effect.
Your steed is the next weapon you can use to knock down enemies by running over them thereby saving you the hassle of expending bullets or doing it yourself.
You can also call on air-strike to aid you in taking down enemies, however it would limit your ranking to A and below. S ranks are for pros who don't use air attacks!

You will encounter a large variety of enemies, from infantry troops with varying weapons to sharp shooting snipers, and even a Russian HINT helicopter!
The enemies are smart enough to follow your last spotted location and carry out group search, so you have to stay alert of their approach when spotted.
You can interrogate, knock them down, and capture them using a fulton balloon.

The landscapes are mostly desserts with some biomes like trees and bushes.
Collect raw materials like diamonds, raw fuel, raw metals, medical plants, all of which you can then use to buy or sell to build your mother base.
There will weather effects such as dessert storms, rain which comes in randomly while in missions, and will aid you in obscuring enemy visions or dampen the hearing effect of your walking by enemies.
However during bad weather, trying to deliver goods will prove to be a bad decision. (Unless your fulton is well upgraded)
Time lapse in game turns the day into night, and when it reaches night time, you can use this advantage to seek into enemy territories without being easily spotted.
Be sure to purchase and use your NVG when nightfalls to ease your travel.

On foot, you can become stealth using crouch or leopard crawl to sneak up and pounce on your enemies.
You can also run towards enemies by depressing the Left joystick while moving.
The best way to commute is your steed(D-Horse), riding on him will bring you swiftly to any location and he can be right beside you anytime you want by blowing a whistle.
Later into the game, you will be able to choose a mecha(D-Walker) which can be used to move you around and have the ability to carry weapons and perform melee attacks.
In a mission, you can also find land rovers, trucks, amoured vehicles that either have soldier driving it or left parked.
You can use them to drive to your designations as well.
You can add a lorry to bring in your mission in later stage of the game.
Helicopter is your main vehicle to bring you to different drop-off points in the map and is allows you to travel to all missions, side-ops.

To get an animal buddy, you have to capture a small little puppy in one of the missions.
Once captured, it will be brought back to Mother base and Miller will rear it for you.
In the later stage of the game, you will then be reunited with it and the D-Dog will become your best pal.
The dog is extremely helpful in the game to detect all kinds of animals, plants, enemies, prisoners for you, making the search so much easier.

MGS V introduces a management system to be literally your own boss.
Manage various teams of specialized skills staff to help build up various important facilities in your mother base.
Each staff has a grading in terms of their skills and some staff are specialized in a specific skill such as in medical or research, putting each staff in the right department will help boost the speed of each specific department.
Some staff can be sent to combat challenges under missions, to earn you rewards. Note: there is a small risk of getting them killed in action and are not revivable.
Your weapons, bombs, armor, vehicles, clothings and other items level of upgrades are determined by quality of staff and you have to spend resources to upgrade.
Your mother base quarters space needs to be upgraded to allow you housing of more staff.
The more team members you have, the faster the development will be.
How well- equipped you are, depends on your entire team, how easy are your missions will also depend on how well-equipped you are.
GMP are the main currency in the game, you have to ensure it does not reach zero or your staff members will leave.
To increase staff, just visit missions and capture your enemies using a fulton balloon.

Mother Base
It's the base which you can go back to explore and built upon.
As you progress, you can expand the area of this base by adding more platforms.
Different field of expertise can be added as you add new platform.
Each platform has it's own unique look and allows you to explore to find hidden items such as diamonds.
You can also play some mini games in some platforms.
It is a must to check out your mother base in order for the story to progress, while also giving you some rewards as you do so.
If you built an animal conservation platform, you can get to visit the flora and fauna that you've collected from your ventures.
Try to add the animal conservation platform as fast as possible so that whatever you've captured can be found there.
You can also get to collect some herbal plants in the wild!
